UPVC mechanisms can fail due to incorrect fitting or lack of maintenance but these issues are easily resolved and although these parts are not cheap they may not be as expensive as you may believe.

There are hundreds of products available that can do the job and a wide variety of prices to match. Some national and even some local independent companies will charge anything up to £400 to visit you, asses the mechanism, then order and replace it. At UPVC Locksmiths we believe you should be paying far less, around half of that figure at the most. A standard 4 roller mechanism could cost as little as £50and some key operated mechanisms can be over £100. To ensure that you get the best service and price we will also always advise you when it is possible to replace just the mechanism or a part of it rather than the whole unit, and the range of prices available.

We have come across many examples where customers have had mechanisms fail and having called a glazing company they have been advised to replace the whole door or window, often being told the mechanism has been discontinued. Please do not feel you have to do this, it is not necessary and can be an expensive decision. At UPVC Locksmiths we can find a replacement mechanism at a much lower price and are happy to supply and fit it for you, or supply only if you prefer.

There are occasions when the whole mechanism does not need replacing and we may be able to replace just the centre case and this is a service we are happy to provide for you. Changing just the centre case works out cheaper than changing the entire mechanism, with prices ranging from around £20 for the cheaper ones to around £90 for the most expensive this can be a more cost effective option. We can also supply centre cases that can be removed, although this is not the case with all mechanisms, some are designed in such a way so as not to be able to be removed.
